In 2014, YUTE trained 43 participants in film, television, and media production as part of its initiative to promote non-traditional employment sectors. The inaugural cohort, supported by a grant from the Australian High Commission’s Direct Aid programme, completed a 10-week intensive course, including a six-week internship. Many programme graduates now work part-time or full-time in the multimedia industry.
YUTE partnered with eMedia Interactive Limited to launch the YUTE Lens Support program. eMedia Interactive, known for iVutv, comprises young entrepreneurs from Kingston and St. Catherine’s troubled communities who are uniquely positioned to engage at-risk youth and offer them professional skills and opportunities.
The YUTE Lens Support program, developed by eMedia Interactive, covered all aspects of production, including scripting, directing, producing, editing, and cinematography, focusing on hands-on learning. This practical approach ensured participants gained valuable experience producing advertisements, news, reality, and documentary features, enhancing their employability and professional growth.
