Collaborating with CUSO International, the MultiCare Youth Foundation (MYF) launched the YUTE GLAM Project (Great Leaders Achieve More) to uplift young, unattached women in Parade Gardens, Kingston. Over three months, from January to March 2022, 15 participants underwent intensive life skills training and one-on-one mentorship, cultivating invaluable personal and professional development. Testimonials from beneficiaries like Brittania and Moesha underscore the project’s transformative impact, emphasising newfound confidence and readiness for the workforce.
However, beyond conventional skill acquisition, the project offered a unique opportunity for candid expression and communal support—a vital aspect underscored by community stalwarts like Colleen Campbell of Women Empowering Women (WEW). Campbell’s insights highlight the significance of providing a non-judgmental platform for these young women to freely share their experiences and aspirations, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.
With ongoing mentorship extending until August 2023, MYF remains committed to nurturing these emerging leaders, recognising the pivotal role of women’s empowerment in driving positive societal change. Supported by partnerships with organisations like the Joan Duncan Foundation and dedicated volunteers, the YUTE GLAM Project stands as a beacon of hope, offering tangible pathways for advancement and community resilience amidst challenging circumstances.
