Making A Difference Where It Matters: MYF Trains 60 Youth For The Workforce

Sixty youth from various underserved communities will receive skills training, as well as three-month internship opportunities this year courtesy of The MultiCare Youth Foundation (MYF) in partnership with the Starbucks Foundation and HEART Trust NTA. The young food and beverage trainees will hail from communities in Kingston and St. James.

“Our Starbucks YUTE Work participants are enrolled in a HEART Trust/NCTVET-certified food and beverage hosting course, and MYF will place them in three months of internship within the hospitality industry,” says Sharlene Brooks, Project Officer, MYF. “Our hope is that they will make a good impression with their employers by demonstrating their technical and soft skills, and be able to convert the internships into full-time jobs,” she adds.

Besides this initiative, another 50 youth are slated to receive training in Early Childhood Development through MYF’s YUTE Teach Project later in 2019. This training will serve as a means of creating employment opportunities in the education sector while providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to become self-employed, where possible.

The Foundation continues to help the nation’s unattached youth access technical and life skills training, benefit from mentorship and find job opportunities so that they can become independent, productive citizens of the nation. Such initiatives bode well for the country’s future economic development.
